During school-aged years, academic achievement is a significant contributor to self-esteem development.[5] Consistently achieving success or consistently failing will have a strong effect on students' individual self-esteem.[41] However, students can also experience low self-esteem while in school. In this deep fear of being unaccepted by an individual's peers, they make poor life choices by making risky decisions.[76][77]
